Hail and well met, traveler! We’re excited you’re interested in Wyvern Rising, a story-driven fantasy LARP set in the frontier town of Wyvern’s Crossing. We’re a proud NEPA LARP (Northeast Pennsylvania Live Action Role-Playing Game).

Okay, now that you’re caught up, let’s dive in on the Wyvern Rising LARP and its community. Our community prides itself on being friendly, inclusive, and helpful to new players. If you have questions, reach out anytime:

Attend Your First Event

Whether you’re brand new to LARP or a veteran trying Wyvern Rising for the first time, we’ll help you get settled in. All Wyvern Rising events take place at Hickory Run State Park in beautiful White Haven, Pennsylvania. Events typically run Friday 8PM to Sunday 8AM. Check out upcoming Events to find out when Wyvern Rising is happening and join us! You can purchase Event Vouchers and Service Points ahead of time in our Shop.  When you first arrive at camp, head to Logistics which you can find on the Camp Maps to check in. A staff member will help you:

  • Create your character card
  • Answer questions
  • Get ready to enter the game

Don’t worry if you’re unsure about anything — just ask! Staff, Directors, and Marshals are always available to help.

What Happens at Check-In

During check-in at Logistics you will:

  • Pay the event fee
  • Sign the Liability Waiver
  • Sign up for:
    • An NPC shift
    • A post-event cleanup duty
  • Receive your character card and coin (in-game money)
  • Spend Build on new skills
  • Safety check any new weapons
  • Resolve any remaining unfinished business

You can speed up check-in by paying for your event online via our Shop, and completing the Liability Waiver online before arriving

Settle In

After checking in:

  • Store any food/drinks in the fridge/freezers in the kitchen.
    • Anything with a strong smell that might attract a bear, make sure to store in the shared kitchen area! The last thing anyone wants is an unwelcome visitor in the night…
  • Move your belongings to your cabin/sleeping area. Cabins are first-come, first-serve, unless players have arranged otherwise in-game. Feel free to decorate your cabin, should you choose!
  • Put on your garb (costume). Don’t be afraid to ask for help or extra spirit gum!
  • Head to Logistics to get your item tags, do a weapons and armor evaluation, and participate in New Player Training.

New Player Training

Before the game begins, all new players must attend New Player Training.

This short orientation will cover:

  • Safety rules
  • Combat basics
  • Roleplay expectations
  • How to use your skills

This training is required, even if you’ve attended other LARPs.

Once training is complete and Lay On is called, a Player Engagement team member (disguised as an NPC) will engage you in a small mod – so be on the lookout!

Create Your Character

You can create your character at your first event, or ahead of time if you’d like to prepare your costume and backstory.

Every character chooses:

Species: Your character’s race and physical representation (costuming) requirements.

Background: Your past life and starting mechanical bonus.

Class: Characters choose one free Adventure class, and one free Profession class! There are 8 classes:

Adventure Classes

  • Cleric
  • Finesse
  • Mage
  • Martial

Profession Classes

  • Alchemy
  • Medicine
  • Mercantile
  • Smithing

Occupation: Small crafting skill groups that support your character’s role.

Skills: New characters start with 24 Build to purchase abilities. Characters can use this Build to purchase any skill from any class they have declared as primary or from the Common Skill list.
